Green Energy Fish Farming AS is dedicated to delivering concept-based solutions and conversions of bulk carriers for aquaculture purposes.
Efficient Aquaculture
We have developed a sustainable aquaculture solution - for both offshore and inshore purposes, focusing on high-quality production while minimizing and controlling environmental impact. We offer planning and consulting services to promote the sustainable development of aquaculture.
About Us
We are a provider of total solutions within offshore / inshore fish farming and also within energy-efficient systems for the maritime industry.
With a global reach, we collaborate with international partners which supply services to our projects. Our focus is to establish sustainable aquaculture solutions through circular economy principles—repurposing the inherent capabilities of vessels, utilizing green energy, energy storage, intake/outlet water purification, and safe handling of sediments.
News
In 2024 a representative of Green Energy Fish Farming (GEFF) has toured China, visiting relevant stakeholders - both owners and institutes that have been involved in the creation of a vessel for offshore operations (i.e., exposed / open sea farming)
In the autumn of 2024, a representative of GEFF gave a presentation at The 5th International Symposium on Offshore Aquaculture, where both GEFF's concept and the current state of offshore fish farming in Norway were showcased.

Proven Global Impact
Green Energy Fish Farming AS (GEFF) offers comprehensive and environmentally friendly solutions for the aquaculture and the maritime industry. We specialize in converting bulk carriers for aquaculture purposes and deliver consultancy, concept development, and project execution with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.
Our technology and expertise has already shown results internationally - particularly in China, where companies have created similar vessels for the purpose of fish production which enable offshore farming of both local fish species and salmon. With a global network and solid experience, we help shape the future of aquaculture through green energy, circular economy principles, and advanced purification systems.

Chinese vessels
Guoxin 2-1
A concept similar to our 2017 concept has been created in China through a new build delivered in 2022; the Guoxin 2-1, where the solution was applied to local fish species like yellow croaker, resulting in 3,200 tons of production in 2024. A new vessel (Suhai 1, see further below) based on the same concept is now being delivered for salmon farming in the cold zone; the northern waters of the China Sea.

Suhai 1
Another Chinese company has as mentioned provided a vessel for offshore fish farming. The "Suhai 1" breeding factory ship was designed by the Institute of Fishery Machinery and Instruments of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and build was commenced by Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard in early 2023, with a total cost of nearly 600 million yuan and delivered in 2025. They are planning on building two vessels with an option of additional two.

Zhe Dai Yu Yang 60001
A bulk carrier converted into a mobile salmon farm with an annual capacity of 2,800 tons has now been officially handed over in Quinhuangdao, Hebei Province, China.
Although China has recently built several salmon farm ships from scratch, this is the first vessel in the country that is the result of the conversion of existing Panamax ships. They are dimensioned to utilize the
maximum size in the Panama Canal and usually have seven cargo holds.
In the "Zhe Dai Yu Yang 60001", the cargo holds have been converted into seven tanks with a total water capacity of 80,000 cubic meters, according to Zhongde Huang, frequently sharing updates on Chinese
aquaculture industry on LinkedIn. The project is financed and executed by Senhai Mako (Zhejiang) Marine Science and Technology Co., according to Huang. The ship will be on the open sea all year round.
-The vessel is equipped with openings in the hull and bottom so that the water in the fish farm is in direct contact with the sea, Huang writes.
-He adds that the ship is equipped with warning systems for hazards such as typhoons.
The ship's design is the first of its kind in the world, with completely independent intellectual property rights, and has obtained more than 20 patents domestically and internationally, Huang writes.
He also states that the Zhe Fai Yu Yang 60001 is classified for legal operation in both Chinese and international waters.
